Citroën has revealed the eagerly anticipated third model in its innovative and distinctive DS line: Citroën DS5. Designed to express the full extent of Citroën's 'Créative Technologie', Citroën DS5 combines ground-breaking style, rewarding driving dynamics and exceptional refinement with innovative engineering solutions.

Citroën DS5 is the first Citroën model to feature HYbrid4 diesel hybrid technology, providing enhanced performance and class leading environmental credentials. The advanced HYbrid4 system delivers 200bhp; four-wheel drive capability; emission-free electric power for the city; and an acceleration boost function for the open road - with total CO2 emissions of just 99g/km.

The DS line has already redefined expectations in the supermini segment with DS3, and combines the style of a coupé and the flexibility of a five-door hatchback with DS4. Progressing to the executive segment, Citroën DS5 targets customers looking for a truly bold and assertive car with a resolutely modern approach to vehicle design.

Based on the futuristic and magical C-SportLounge concept, DS5 bringstrue technological innovation to its class.
INTERIOR
Most importantly, DS5 benefits from Citroën’s expertise in quality and refinement. Each detail has been carefully considered, with premium materials such as fine-grain Club leather and exclusive designs like the ‘watchstrap’ seat upholstery – a signature touch of the DS line that is unique to the market.

Reconciling fun at the wheel with comfort and practicality, DS5 opens up new horizons with pioneering architecture, including:

* A sleek, compact body (4.52m long, 1.85m wide) and a driving position worthy of a Gran Turismo coupé.
* A roomy boot (up to 465 litres VDA) reminiscent of a Sportwagon.
* Five real seats, four doors and all the access and modularity of a hatchback.

For its motor show debut in Shanghai, DS5 appears in a one-off livery as the Citroën DS5 White Pearl. The cabin features ebony-coloured full-grain leather, contrasting subtly with silver-flecked overstitching. Interior detailing includes decorative inserts in Markassa ebony and a highly reflective fascia, created by applying several layers of lacquer. DS5 White Pearl also sports specially designed 20-inch alloy wheels.
EXTERIOR
The assertive front end instantly identifies Citroën DS5 as a member of the DS family. There is an oversized air intake, a large chrome-finished grille housing the chevrons and a new LED light signature. A distinguishing feature, DS5 boasts chrome-finished ’sabre’ inserts stretching from the top of each headlamp to the windscreen.

The rear design takes Citroen DS5’s on-road presence to yet another level. The car stands firmly on wide tracks, emphasised by two tail pipes built into the rear bumper and highlighted by a rear signature featuring six light guides.
ENGINE
This is truly an eco-friendly car as it has CO2 emission of only 99 g/km. One of the driving modes available will be Auto that just like the one found in other similar car, it manages to switch between the diesel power unit and the electric motor in order to optimize fuel consumption. For driving the vehicle on electric mode with the 37 hp (27 kW) electric motor, you’ll have to select the Zero Emission Vehicle mode and you will be able to drive the car at speeds of up to 37 mph. Picking Four Wheel Drive means that the DS5’s front wheels are going to be powered by the diesel engine while the rear wheels will be motivated by the electric motor. Lastly, for an improved engine response achieved by maximizing the use of the conventional diesel engine as well as the electric unit, you can choose the Sport mode. source:www.zulva.com,www.rpmgo.com

Frankfurt 2011: Volvo ‘Concept You’

Volvo Concept You

Volvo is China's Swedish takeaway. A year on from its acquisition by a consortium of Chinese money-men, things are now getting serious. Sales are up 21 per cent in the first eight months of the year, the brand - beloved of San Francisco bay-area architects - is the fastest-growing in the US (whatever fastest-growing means), and a factory in Chengdu is due to open before the year's end. CEO Stefan Jacoby is also making very bullish noises. Given that Volvo's stand was being hastily extended on Monday - just 12 hours before Frankfurt show press day - to annex the space originally booked by a sadly absent Saab, we should be glad he's got something to be bullish about.

The Frankfurt hoopla was focused around ‘Concept You', which evolves some of the ideas set out by the ‘Concept Universe' earlier this year, and posits a new full-size premiumVolvo luxury car. Those with long memories or elderly Scandinavian relatives will spot the debt the new car owes to the PV544, specifically in the curious but effective curving nose treatment and grille. Elsewhere, the body-sides and glass area are Jag XJ - though the C-pillars are tidier - and the rear end has shades of Audi A7. A little derivative, then, but beautifully done.
It's equally good inside. Suicide doors - regular show car stuff, generally chosen to show off a car's interior - open onto a cabin that blends a stunning mix of wood, leather and suede. The driver's seat and the rear compartment are trimmed in contrasting materials, the seats ‘float', and the overall effect is a tasteful reinvention of Swedish design tropes guaranteed to get Wallpaper magazine readers elegantly excited. Not sure what they'll make of it in Beijing, though.
The main instrument display is effectively an iPad which uses touch-screen technology to brilliantly simple effect, and ushers in the era of jet-fighter tech where the driver's retina will trigger commands. There's another touch-screen in the back, and sitting between the seats - for no apparent reason other than it's another Swedish design ‘icon' - is a £28,000 Hasselblad camera.
The ‘You' - great name guys - is underpinned by Volvo's new Scalable Platform Architecture, which allows for full electrification, and will form the basis of all future models. None of which - get this - will use anything larger than a four-cylinder engine. Extra power will come instead from ‘flywheel drive', a KERS-style energy capture system that generates another 80bhp or so. Volvo also claims that 90 per cent of the first ‘SPA' car to be launched will use all-new components, and there is a definite sense of being liberated from the giant Ford matrix.
As is design director, the near-legendary Brit Peter Horbury, who returns to Gothenburg after a lengthy sojourn in Dearborn. Horbury helped define Volvo's design vision in the 1990s, and he's back to do it all over again. ‘It's a whole new challenge,' he says, ‘and a completely different world. My new boss has lots of ideas...' Apparently, some of these reach Peter in the form of poetry.
TG.com will be catching up with Horbury soon. Not just a great car designer, this is a man who has participated in lively nights out with Iron Maiden. But that's another story...

Ford Motor May Build Electric Cars in China With Partner, CEO Mulally Says

Ford Motor Co. (F) may make electric cars with its partner in China as the auto industry moves toward producing more fuel-efficient vehicles, Chief Executive Officer Alan Mulally said.
“Our plan is to make the vehicles people want and value, in China and around the world,” Mulally, 66, said in a Bloomberg Television interview on Sept. 24 in Chongqing, China. “As we move to more electrification you’re going to see more hybrids, plug-in hybrids and all-electric.”
Mulally, who was in China to attend the groundbreaking ceremony of an engine transmission plant at its venture with Changan Automobile Group, didn’t provide a schedule for building electric cars. Rivals Daimler AG (DAI) and General Motors Co. (GM) have announced plans to add alternative-energy vehicles in China as the country, the world’s largest polluter, seeks to reduce emissions. The government aims to have 1 million electric- powered vehicles on the road by 2015, according to the Ministry of Science.
GM on Sept. 20 signed an agreement to develop electric cars in China with its partner SAIC Motor Corp. GM, which plans to introduce the plug-in hybrid Chevrolet Volt in China in the fourth quarter, will not give SAIC or the Chinese government intellectual property for the Volt as part of the agreement, GM Vice Chairman Steve Girsky said.
Ford will also consider introducing its luxury brand Lincoln in China to tap into the growing high-end sedan market, Mulally said. The carmaker currently sells models such as its Mondeo sedan and Focus small cars in the country.
“We have a great luxury brand in Lincoln, which we have recommitted ourselves to,” he said. “There’s going to be tremendous pull from China to have access to these great vehicles.”

Additional Models

Ford is spending $1.6 billion to build four factories in China, where it plans to triple its lineup by offering 15 models by mid-decade. The U.S. carmaker, dependent on the U.S. and Europe for most sales and profits, had 2.7 percent of the passenger-vehicle market in China through June, according to J.D. Power & Associates, while GM controls 10 percent.
China’s demand for luxury cars will grow about 35 percent this year, analysts at J.D. Power forecast. This compares with a 5 percent increase for overall auto sales as predicted by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
Expansion in Asia is part of Mulally’s wider plan to boost annual global sales by 50 percent to 8 million vehicles by 2015. Ford’s China sales have risen 11 percent this year to 341,746 units, the company said on Sept. 6.
Overall vehicle sales in China reached 18.06 million units last year, boosted by government tax breaks and rural subsidies.

Delivery Slowdown

Ford is encountering pricing pressure in China as the auto market there slows, Joe Hinrichs, group vice president and Asia chief, said on Aug. 10. Overall deliveries in China are forecast to slow this year from the 32 percent gain in 2010, after the government removed sales-tax breaks in January and the central bank raised interest rates five times since October.
“China has a very good plan to have sustainable growth, to manage the inflation as well as the economic activity and automobile purchases move along with that,” Mulally said. “So, even though it’s lower than the previous year, it’s a lot more sustainable for the long term.”

Innovation Direct™ Set to Represent Automobile Communication System Invention to Potential Licensees

Miami, FL, September 25, 2011 ---- Kenneth Van Neste, North Carolina resident and inventor, has contracted South Florida invention and patent licensing leader Innovation Direct™ to represent his Automobile Communication Device to industry for the next 4 years. An innovative new product designed to make navigating roadways a much safer proposition, the Automobile Communication Device features a unique design that provides an effective method of alerting motorists of the use of cruise control in the vehicles around them, and whether they are in the process of accelerating or decelerating.

As described by the inventor, the Automobile Communication Device will be located adjacent to a vehicle’s third brake light and will utilize 4 different light intervals to communicate the current mode of operation it is in to other motorists. A solid light will indicate that cruise control is on and that the vehicle is traveling at a set speed; a blinking light will represent that the cruise is accelerating, either by pedal or by button; a momentarily extinguished light will represent the fact that the vehicle’s cruise is descending slowly in speed; and a completely extinguished light is an indicator that the vehicle’s cruise control is completely off.

The Automobile Communication Device will be relatively simple to install in virtually any car or truck and will help prevent motorists from misjudging the speed and intentions of the drivers around them. It will also allow all drivers to maximize the advantages of cruise control mode with total peace of mind. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the product will allow a virtually countless number of vehicles to travel simultaneously and in conjunction with each other at preset cruising speeds, improving fuel efficiency and safety on the roadways.

Mr. Van Neste has already done extensive work with the development of the concept, including having discussed the pertinent aspects of it with the U.S. Department of Transportation and multiple universities. The product is also the subject of U.S. Utility Patent 8,009,030, which was issued on August 30, 2011, and a Continuation In Part application that intends to detail and protect enhanced functionality of the product.

The inventor of the Automobile Communication Device now seeks a third party licensee to manufacture, market, and distribute the product for him under a royalty agreement. Potential licensees in the automotive safety products industry are currently being targeted as candidates to eventually commercialize the Automobile Communication Device on a worldwide basis.

In August 2011, Mr. Van Neste contracted Miami, Florida-based product management services leader Innovation Direct™ to represent the Automobile Communication Device to potential licensees for a 4 year period. Innovation Direct™ obtains the maximum amount of exposure for the products that it represents through participation in multiple and diverse industry-leading trade shows each year, including the SHOT Show, the International Home and Housewares Show, the World of Concrete Show, the National Hardware Show, Licensing International, the SEMA and AAPEX Shows and the ERA D2C Convention.

Potential licensees interested in obtaining more information about the Automobile Communication Device and discussing licensing opportunities with respect to the product can contact the Manufacturer Response Department of Innovation Direct™ at (877) 991-0909 ext. 4285 or at MR@innovationdirectonline.com.

2011 Citroen Survolt

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Citroen Survolt concept
Citroen Survolt Concept is the continuation of Citroen's exploration of distinctive and original electric vehicles, initiated with the Revolte concept car revealed at 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Citroen Survolt Concept turns received notions on their heads through its radically new vision in a consummate blend of high-fashion glamour and extravagance with motor-racing punch.

The desire to overcome one's limits, take things further, dare and create is written in Citroen's DNA. Breaking with convention, shaking up the rules, shifting borders and surprising continuously is the passionate quest and leitmotiv of a brand that over its 90-year history has never ceased to develop innovative objects ahead of their time. Citroen Survolt Concept is one of these. It takes the genetic material of Revolte and adds an extroverted sports dimension to the mix.

Like a luxury accessory that transcends an outfit, Survolt Concept is Citroen's answer to an automotive universe that all too often seems morose. Citroen Survolt Concept casts aside protocol and transgresses existing codes to initiate a new kind of stylish, sporty and elegant supermini. Bucking current trends and pointing to the future of sleek coupés, it unites elegance, glamour and sporting passion, sublimating this last quality with its electric drivetrain.
 INTERIOR
Survolt’s cockpit is designed like a floating cell, a glass setting held between chrome-finished roll bars like some magnificent piece of jewellery. The leitmotiv with Survolt is to transgress the conventions of the luxury world and combine them elegantly with those of the sporting world.

The cabin was imagined as a cross between two worlds that by their essence are opposed. This union begets an organic universe, both flowing and technical, from which the driver’s station springs forth. The interior as a whole was designed to bring the two occupants comfort and refinement, triggering singular pleasure and an outstanding experience.

The car’s generous glazed area brings light and a sensation of space, light years from that offered by today’s sports cars.

EXTERIOR
With its compact dimensions - 3.85 m long, 1.87 m wide and 1.20 m high - Citroen Survolt Concept reappropriates sports car styling cues to form an all-new and revolutionary concept.

At the front, the distinctive vehicle badge reigns elegantly above the large oval-shaped grille, its centre home to the striking double chevron. The car's "look" - charming and profound at the same time - attracts and holds the viewer's gaze with a promise of transgressions suddenly made possible. Its slim, horizontal head lamps, inspired by high-performance sports coupés, exert a magnetic appeal, while an LED light signature adds a contemporary, high-tech touch.

Citroen Survolt Concept was made to gobble up the miles and glide over roads. Low-slung and sleek, it features strong contrasts between the voluptuous bonnet and generous, sculpted flanks, highlighted by emphatic wheel arches that promise performance and thrills.

Citroen Survolt Concept's air-slicing, flowing design is heavy on excitement and sensuality. It conveys agility, precision and vitality, barely containing a powerful, well-defined musculature under refined ined musculature under refined and luxurious wraps. The rear features the elegant light signature of Revolte together with a spoiler in an essential reference to motor sport.

Citroen Survolt Concept is innovative and powerful but also knows how to turn on the charm, revealing its finest assets to catwalk in motor sports arenas. It features two-tone paint, hues of fuchsia and charcoal grey, and plays with materials and volumes. The curves shift from satin-smooth to shiny, breaking definitively with the classic masculine codes of the sports world. Citroen Survolt Concept continues the work begun with Revolte by once again blending two universes with contrasting appearances. Citroen Survolt Concept eschews decorum to create its own styling language.

The inclusion of materials such as chrome and aluminium inevitably recall the spheres of luxury goods and motor sport. Citroen Survolt Concept is a perfect combination between high fashion and car racing, a unique alliance with the same philosophy and the same cues as Revolte, namely performance, cutting-edge technology and excellence.

New CR-V Patent Drawings Leaked

Here are some leaked patent drawings of the all-new CR-V.
Honda had presented a CR-V concept in July and the production version sticks to most of the concept’s styling. The wide upper grille, swept headlamps and a stylish-looking D-pillar have all been carried over. The wheels, however, have been toned down for a more civilized effect.
The new CR-V uses an all-new platform, and the new styling gives it a more aggressive stance than the current version. The most prominent changes are at the front, where the CR-V features a wraparound lower front bumper that is better integrated into the rest of the front fascia than on the current car. The three-bar horizontal front grille is also much more dominant than the current CR-V’s, with slimmed-down headlights flanking it on either side. Honda claims the front-end styling changes result in much improved aerodynamics over the current car.
Heavily sculpted bodywork features on the sides, which also get more pronounced side sills. At the rear, the new car is likely to retain the vertical light design of the current car (Honda has not yet released any image to show the rear styling). The Japanese firm is also claiming an all-new, even more spacious interior with a lower floor for improved load-carrying ability.
Honda has confirmed no engine details at this stage, although improved efficiency and fuel economy are promised. The current CR-V is available with 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre petrol engines, developing 143bhp and 161bhp respectively.
The all-new Honda CR-V will be making its motor-show debut at the Orange County International Auto Show in California this November.

2011 Vauxhall Opel Tigra

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Opel Tigra
If you were to ring Harrods and say you wanted to spend £100,000 in their luggage department, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they sent a car and gave you a genuflecting personal assistant with a PhD in obsequiousness.

But if you were to ring a car dealer and say you wanted to spend £100,000, they’d put you on hold for half an hour. After which you’d be put through to a disinterested yob with nasty hair and a cheap suit who would explain that they have no demonstrators at the moment so maybe you could pop in some time later on the off chance.

When you do, you’ll be told there are still no demonstrators, that the windscreen wipers are optional extras, that you can have it in a choice of only five colours — all of them ghastly — and that delivery is expected some time in 2008.

And this is for a car costing £100,000, so I dread to think how shabbily you are treated if you “only” want to spend £15,000. Frankly, I’d be surprised if you could get out of the showroom with your life.

Let me give you an example. Last week, while driving around in Vauxhall’s little Tigra, I ran over a screw. This meant the tyre went flat, which in turn meant I had to pull over and change the wheel. Hard, because there was no jack, and doubly hard because despite what it said in the handbook there was no spare wheel either.

All you get is a can of foam and a set of instructions that explain what to do with it. Step One, apparently, is to remove whatever it is that caused the tyre to go flat in the first place.
EXTERIOR
The Vauxhall Tigra offers excellent driver appeal, from sport suspension, low profile tyres to 15 or 16-inch alloy wheels, the Tigra provides a very enjoyable ride. It’s not a sportscar, but performs very well for a vehicle in this sector. The 1.8-litre Sport, has a chrome tailpipe, and a pleasantly sporty feel during acceleration. The car is able to 125bhp and has a 0-60mph time of 9 seconds.

This is not a family vehicle. The Tigra lacks the space necessary to be a practical family car. It could be used as a sedcond car, or an expensive teen car.

The Tigra would make a good first car. In many ways the Tigra would make an ideal first car. The majority of buyers are likely to be female, despite the fact that the Tigra is more masculine than the 206 CC or Ford Streetka. Image conscious young buyers on a limited budget will find the car’s blend of style and personality at an affordable price irresistable. Insurance rates will run high though.

Past generations of Vauxhalls have been boring and too predictable, leaving the newer more exciting generations the burden of countering that image. The cara are well made and cars like the Monaro, VX220 and now the Tigra coupe/cabriolet will definitely win more than a few buyers over. The lack of quality in the cabin will hurt matters even more though. The car might age quickly and ifso, that will lower resale values for the little Tigra.

INTERIOR
The drive & handling of the Opel Tigra wins an 8 on 10. The steering is firm and has a decent grip. There is no body roll, even around sharp corners. The ride is quite comfy at the same time has a twinge of peppiness to it. If over-assisted, the steering is sharp and quick. This is probably one car that you can enjoy roof down as well as on top. (That is if you don’t mind the wind blowing through your hair!).

I would probably rate the interiors only a 3.5 on 10, simply because you wouldn’t expect something that looks so great on the outside to be so old fashioned on the inside. The cabin is a bit drab, plasticy and looks aged. The driving position is not too great either, though it’s not completely unbearable.

My lowest score of 2 on 10, would easily go for the space & practicality of the Tigra. But then again, you wouldn’t select this car as a family wagon. There is very little space in the car even if you compare it to rivals in the same segment. The boot is super tiny and practically unfeasible.
ENGINE
In terms of the engines, I would give the Tigra car a 7 on 10. The only reason I have cut points is because of the minimal options. Performance wise, both the 90bhp 1.4 and the 70bhp 1.3 CDTi, are great. But if I had to choose, I would pick the 1.4 petrol as the better option. That’s honestly because I personally prefer the roof on top and the petrol version just adds that zing to a cabrio.

In terms of performance, I would give the Tigra only a 5 on 10. now, I have no particular complaints against the performance so much as I have against the speed. The Tigra is promoted as a sports car; but the 1.3 CDTi takes 15.5 seconds to reach 100km/h while the 1.4 needs about 12.4 seconds. I assure you no racers or adrenaline pumping youngster is going to opt for this car.
SAFETY
ABS, driver, passenger and side airbags, active head restraints, seatbelt force limiters and a pedal release mechanism are all thrown in to help you out in the event of an accident. Those with young children will be disappointed to note the absence of a passenger airbag cut-off switch, making it dangerous to fix a rear-facing child seat in the front. The roll bars and strengthened A pillars should be more than strong enough in the event of a roll over. Steering wheel-mounted audio controls eliminate the need to avert eyes from road to fiddle around with the stereo.

2011 Opel Vectra OPC

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Opel Vectra OPC
Punching out 188 kilowatts of power - about 255 ponies - the new Vectra OPC is the quickest and most powerful vehicle on display at Opel's Frankfurt Motor Show exhibit.

In addition to the new Astra TwinTop and the prototypical Antara GTC, Opel showed off its performance-oriented Vectra model at the German auto show, equipped with a turbocharged 6-cylinder engine that may pique the interest of Holden fans.

In the past, Opel's Vectra - or the Holden Vectra as it's known locally - has been available with 6-cylinder powerplants, but this new turbocharged model is set to increase the tempo somewhat, competing with cars such as the BMW 330i and the Volvo S40 T5.

In addition to the OPC Vectra's increased brawn, the trendy new model also gets a new suit, elevating the vehicle both mechanically and visually beyond its predecessors.
EXTERIOR
Revealing the latest car tuning work from JMS is the Opel Vectra C OPC station wagon, and it has a sporty look for the modifications it received. JMS started off by lowering the car, so they installed H&R springs on the front which lowered it 45 mm, and the rear dropped by 35 mm. The lowering springs cost 198 euros and will work the factory shock absorbers of the Opel Vectra C OPC. Completing the exterior styling are Barracuda Velvet racing wheels measuring 19×8.5 and 19×9.5 in the rear. High performance tires were fitted, and the front received 245/35/19, while the rear rims are wrapped in 255/35/19 tires. The complete wheel and tire package is priced at 2,200 euros and JMS also offers an electronic engine tuning package for 799 euros. After the engine recalibration, the Opel Vectra C OPC has final performance numbers of 285 hp and 480 Nm of torque.
ENGINE
With a 260km/h top speed, the new Vectra OPC eclipses the maximum speed of many of Europe's better known prestige brands, often limited to 250km/h, and though no specific stats were provided, Opel is adamant the vehicle will sprint from 0-100km/h in less than 7.0 seconds - which is pretty quick for a mid sized vehicle.

The front-wheel drive's impressive performance comes from its new V6 engine, a motor that's increasingly being put to use by General Motor's various brands, one such example being Saab. The 2.8-litre V6 gasoline engine is fed increased amounts of air via a twin-scroll turbocharger, and together with variable valve timing it helps liberate a useful 355Nm of torque. Peak power is 188kW (255hp).

Effortless acceleration in almost any gear from very low revs will be courtesy of a very flat torque curve that the turbo engine creates, while the 6-speed manual transmission, which ships as standard with the Vectra OPC, will ensure rapid take offs and lofty top speeds.
DRIVING IMPRESSION AND SAFETY
The Vectra OPC and Vectra station wagon OPC offer their drivers even more safety and comfort with the Visibility Package, Park Pilot and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). And there is good news for automatic transmission fans: the 206 kW/280 hp 2.8-liter V6 turbo in both Vectra OPC models is now available with a six-speed
automatic gearbox for the first time. As with the manual transmission versions, the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
