Chevrolet Impala in police trim from the 2008 to 2012 model years is the latest target of a recall effort from General Motors.
In a filing to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), GM said that the front lower control arms in the suspension might fracture resulting in the loss of control of the vehicle, thus increasing the risk of a crash.
The recall affects 36,413 police cruisers sold in the United States and 1,713 in Canada with GM noting that is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.
The company added that the safety action does not include non-police Chevrolet Impala vehicles.
According to the automaker, dealers will replace both front lower control arms, free of charge with the recall expected to begin on August 21, 2012.
