I'm also sure it was high fives all around the Ford development center when the new C-Max received the official EPA-certified combined rating of an impressive 47 mpg, 7 mpg better than the Prius V, which, of course, they made sure to include in the press release. New Ford C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrid Starts at $29,995 After a Federal Tax Credit, Targets Prius V


With the Toyota Prius V Plug-in Hybrid clearly in its sights, Ford's new C-MAX Energi will arrive in dealerships across the United States this fall with a starting price of $33,745 before a $3,750 federal tax credit and additional tax credits up to $1,500 in California.

Therefore, depending on where you live, the plug-in hybrid version of the C-MAX (there's also a regular hybrid variant that starts at $25,995) will cost between $28,495 and $29,995 after the government subsidy.

Ford C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrid to Deliver 550-Mile Range, More than 20 Miles on Electric Power


Once again, the Blue Oval is on a bragging spree specifically targeting Toyota, which we don't know whether it should feel complimented or aggrieved.

Today, Ford said it expects its new 2013 C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid minivan to achieve more than 20 miles (32 kilometers) of electric-only range, noting that's "nearly double the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid".
