Hennessey Says New Cadillac CTS-V VR1200 Twin Turbo Coupe is the World's Most Powerful 4-Seater

Not the one to shy away from the insane horsepower wars of our time, Hennessey Performance is lifting the bar for tuners with the presentation of the new 2013 Cadillac VR1200 Twin Turbo Coupe based on the two-door version of the CTS-V.

There's a ton of stuff going on under the sheetmetal but the highlight of the tune can be found right behind Cadillac's crest.

The all-new 2013 ATS premium compact sedan will be taking the spotlight on Cadillac’s stand at the upcoming Paris Motor Show as the automaker prepares for its European launch with sales to begin in October and customer deliveries in December.

While the ATS is offered in the States with three petrol engine options including a 200hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, a 270hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four and a 320hp 3.6-liter V6, Cadillac's European release only mentions the 2.0L Turbo that can accelerate the rear-wheel drive sedan from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in 5.9 seconds.

General Motors may have increased its US sales in August by 10 percent compared to the same month in 2011, but last Wednesday it notified its dealers to stop deliveries of some of its most popular models.

The reason is a software glitch on the OnStar communication system that affects the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze, Equinox and Volt, the Cadillac ATS, SRX and XTS, the Buick Verano plus the GMC Terrain.

GM spokesman Alan Adler said that the issue has been identified as the system failing to alert the OnStar call center in an accident that the vehicle’s airbags are not deployed, like a rear-end collision.

The GM Fleet & Commercial Division revealed three new versions of the Cadillac XTS. Mind you, they are not “special” editions, but livery, limousine and funeral coach - aka hearse, variants of Cadillac's luxury saloon.

The livery variant of the XTS is powered by a 300 HP 3.6-liter V6 coupled to a six-speed transmission and it returns 17 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

Cadillac “Glamour” Concept Comes Into Focus with Speculative Coupe Renderings

We recently reported on some teaser photos for a yet to be determined future Cadillac concept model that will boast the company’s new “American glamour meets American technology” design language.

Rumored to make its official debut at next year's Detroit Auto Show, Cadillac leaves a lot to the imagination on their newest project so far.

During a media gathering on the sidelines of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California on Thursday night, Cadillac briefly showed two cropped sketches of an unknown concept model.

When asked by a journalist from Autonews, a spokesman for the wreath and crest brand said that it previews a concept model that will make its world premiere during the 2013 motor show season.

There is a very interesting story behind the two Cadillac Fleetwood V-16s that you see pictured above and which will make their public appearance at the annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Carmel, California this week.

While both cars feature an original design from top to bottom, they were never actually built by Cadillac.

It’s true that sales of the Volt haven't quite taken off in the way Chevrolet intended. Even in the US, where it is subsidized by the federal government as well as by some states like California, it hasn't been able to come close to GM's goal of 45,000 units in 2012 - though at 10,666 deliveries from January to July, it sold more than triple the numbers of the Nissan Leaf at 3,543 units in the same period.

It makes perfect sense then that it is almost non-existent in China, where its US$40K price is nearly doubled due to taxation imposed by the government on imported cars.

This is a fact that GM representatives readily acknowledge. Ray Bierzynski, the company’s head of electric vehicle strategy in China, won’t disclose any sales figure, but told Automotive News that the Volt is “a very low-volume” car.

There's no place like the Nürburgring Nordschleife when it comes to testing and honing the handling dynamics of a vehicle, something that even General Motors has long accepted.

And now, with Cadillac having turned most of its guns directly towards BMW, the wreath and crest brand is increasing its presence on the fabled circuit, which recently made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Spied in this video is the next generation of the Cadillac CTS that was captured on film being thrashed around the 'Ring.

We know for a fact that any new car's design goes through several phases before reaching its final production form and that in the process, designers experiment with various prototypes that usually don't see the light of day.

Every once in a very rare while, though, we get the opportunity to take a look at early prototypes that either inspired or led to the finished product.

Such is the case with this scale model of a design prototype that was created by the team responsible for the styling of the all-new 2013 Cadillac ATS compact saloon, which goes on sale in the U.S. this month.

The first series production 2013 Cadillac ATS rolled off the assembly line Thursday morning at General Motors' Lansing Grand River assembly plant in Michigan, which also builds the CTS Sedan, Wagon and Coupe and V-Series performance models.

In order for GM to be able to manufacture the ATS, the plant underwent a $190 million upgrade and a second shift was added, with the company claiming that 600 jobs were either created or retained lifting the total headcount to 1,643 salaried and hourly employees.

"This is a car with a big mission, and it’s been comprehensively prepared for that mission," said Don Butler, vice president of Cadillac Marketing, evidently referring to the positioning of the ATS in the lucrative, but difficult to break into, premium compact saloon category with rivals such as the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Lexus IS and Audi A4.

The next 24 months will be a busy time for Cadillac in terms of new products as the Detroit automaker has plenty on its plate including the presentation of a flagship limousine loosely based on the well-received Ciel convertible sedan concept.

A report from Automotive News (sub. required) citing sources from within General Motors outlines Cadillac's plans for the 2013-15 model years.

According to the insiders, GM has given the green light for the development of a full size, rear-wheel drive luxury sedan that will sit atop of the range rivaling the Audi A8, BMW 7-Series, Jaguar XJ and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Cadillac's "Art and Science" design language, which was first seen on a production model on the original CTS sedan before it spread to the entire range, has been a success bringing the Detroit company's styling to the 21st century.

In fact, it's so successful that an unknown state-run company from China named Shanxi Victory has decided to borrow the crispy and edgy design forms and apply them to its vehicle lineup.

There's a 0.00001 percent chance we're wrong, but we're willing to take the risk and say that Shanxi Victory did not ask General Motors' permission to use Cadillac's fascia...

And mind you, it's not only the Cadillac Escalade lookalike pickup truck found by the folks from CarNewsChina on Sohu, as we dug a bit further and discovered two more minivans that like what the wreath and crest brand has done to its 21st century models.

Cadillac unveiled the 2013 XTS, the newest addition to the Cadillac luxury sedan lineup. It arrives in showrooms in U.S. and Canadian showrooms in the spring of 2012 as the most technologically advanced production car in the brand's history.

Larger than the CTS, the new Cadillac XTS delivers the space, elegance and dramatic presence that are Cadillac signatures, but with entirely new and technically advanced methods tuned for a new generation of luxury customers. It also marks the debut of CUE, a comprehensive in-vehicle experience that merges intuitive design with auto industry-first controls and commands for information and media control.
In addition to the CUE interface and connectivity, many other advanced technologies are integral to the new XTS. It will be the only luxury sedan with standard Magnetic Ride Control - the world's fastest-reacting suspension. Advanced technologies that enhance vision and safety surround the driver are available as well.
Positioned directly above the centerpiece CTS family in Cadillac's revamped lineup, the new XTS features a 3.6L direct injection engine and advanced all-wheel drive system, marking a shift to more-efficient performance in a spacious luxury sedan.

"The Cadillac XTS represents a new formula for luxury, driven by advanced technology," said Don Butler, vice president of Cadillac Marketing. "XTS showcases the evolution of our Art & Science philosophy, merging the best technical ideas with the continued refinement of Cadillac design."

The XTS is available in Standard, Luxury, Premium and Platinum trim levels.
The base XTS is fitted as standard with a host of luxury features, including leather upholstery, genuine wood trim, the aforementioned CUE infotainment system, an eight speaker Bose AM/FM/CD stereo with Sirium XM radio, HD radio and an auxiliary input jack, adaptive remote start and Cadillac’s elegantly named Twilight Sentinel automatic headlight system.

The XTS Luxury adds heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, upgraded wood trim 19-inch aluminum wheels, memory seats with adjustable thigh support, dual stainless steel tailpipes, auxiliary daytime running lights and LED spotlights.

Stepping up to the XTS Premium brings a navigation system, a 14-speaker premium Bose surround sound system, a color heads-up display and tri-zone automatic climate control. Also standard are addition safety features, including a front and rear ultrasonic parking aid system, a rearview camera, forward collision alert, a rear cross-traffic system alert, blind zone alert and a lane departure warning system.

The 2013 XTS’ safety features also distinguish it from its classmates. The XTS will debut with front and rear automatic brakes, which use radar sensors to automatically slow down the car and help prevent low-speed collisions. Another stand-out item is the Safety Alert Seat, which vibrates the left or right side of the driver’s seat cushion to warn the driver of potential accidents. It's the eve of the Detroit Auto Show, and Cadillac officially kicked things off tonight by unveiling its 2013 ATS sedan at Detroit's College for Creative Studies. Why CCS? Many of the college's graduates go on to work in areas of automotive design, and as Ed Welburn, General Motors' Vice President of Global Design, told us, over 170 CCS graduates currently work within the larger GM design team, 20 of which directly worked on the ATS project. After getting our first impressions of the ATS in the flesh, we must indeed applaud those designers.

The ATS rides on an all-new rear-wheel-drive platform, and the end result is car that's about eight inches shorter in length than the larger CTS sedan. Cadillac's Art & Science design language has been updated for the smaller sedan, with angular lines and flat surfaces found throughout the four-door's styling. Sure, Cadillac is quite proud of the way the ATS looks, but what's most important about this car is its performance. After all, the ATS will go head-to-head with the likes of the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4, so on the road, it has to be good.

The new ATS sports Cadillac's latest Arts & Science styling with sharp creases and flowing lines. The headlights are jewel-like, while the taillight feature light pipes that complement the integrated LED rear spoiler. Dual chrome exhaust tips peek out from below the bumper, with the center-mounted backup light mounted between them.

Inside, Cadillac will offer real wood, aluminum, or carbon-fiber trim that will complement leather seats and a soft-touch dashboard. The available CUE infotainment system features a capacitive touch-sensitive center stack with an 8-inch touch screen up top. All the touch-sensitive buttons feature haptic feedback, so you know when you've touched a button, and a 5.7-inch color LCD resides inside the gauge cluster.

With that out of the way, we can get back to the ATS. Like its bigger brother, the ATS will ride on a new rear-wheel-drive platform dubbed Alpha. (The current CTS uses Sigma bones.) We expect that the ATS will offer a mix of four-cylinder and V-6 engines, some turbocharged, and manual transmissions should be available across the board. All-wheel drive will be on the order sheet, too. We’re most excited, naturally, for the ATS-V, which we’ve heard should pack a twin-turbocharged V-6 thumping out around 380 hp.

Some time after the ATS arrives, we expect Cadillac to introduce an ATS-based convertible with a cloth roof (rather than a folding hardtop), different styling, and a new name. It’s meant to fit between the ATS and the larger, more-expensive CTS, much in the way the Audi A5 cabrio slots between the A4 on which it’s based and the A6.

It’s possible that the Cadillac ATS will debut as early as this August at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance—a Detroit debut in January makes some sense, too—and General Motors says that the car will go on sale in the summer of 2012.source:autoblog.com,thecarconnection.com,caranddriver.com

The V8 was an expensive option, and only provided an additional 18 horsepower over the standard V6 mill. Handling and braking are where the STS continues to shine. It’s nimble in the corners, and reviewers are generally pleased to be sitting in the driver’s seat.
