The engine is believed to be coming out as part of the new Altima due out in 2013, not a swap mid-run. Nissan also boasts that the new engine offers just as flat of a torque curve as the out-going 3.5L V6. Nissan also says that the idea of combining supercharging with hybrid technology will be used extensively in coming models – maybe we can hope for a 3.7L supercharged hybrid version of the 370Z. Doubtful, but one can always dream.
Nearly every manufacturer is guilty of either creating a tiny engine or a smaller engine with hybrid components. BMW has mostly abandoned their V8s in favor of single, bi, and triple turbocharged engines. General Motors is growing their line of small-displacement Ecotec engines. Even Porsche has hybrid versions of the Panamera and Cayenne with the 918 supercar slated to become to world’s most fuel efficient and eye-catching use of hybrid technology.
